Svetitskhoveli Cathedral

For a long time Svetitskhoveli Cathedral has been a principal church of Georgia. It is also a burial site of Christ’s mantle and burial place for kings of Georgia. The present structure of the Church was completed in 10 c. although the site itself dates back to early fourth century.
Originally built in the 4th c. during the reign of Mirian the III of Kartli it has been damaged and destroyed several times by invasions of Arabs, Persians and Timurids. It was reconstructed in 14th century, underwent large renovation in 15th c. and subsequently in 17th century.
