Ananuri Fortress
Fortifications of the fortress consist of two castles joined by walls. The upper fortification with a large square tower survived well it is the place of the last defense of the Aragvi against Shanshe. There are two churches in the fortress, the older is the Church of the Virgin contains graves of some of Dukes of Aragvi. The larger Church of the Mother God (1689) contains the remans of number of frescoes most of which destroyed by fire in the 18th century.
